I am thankful to have had the Sage experience. Being a part of the group has helped me understand how to run an online magazine, and I got much more out of the class than I could have ever expected. I learned about journalism and computers while improving my writing skills. All the while, there was the freedom to do what I wanted; the staff positions, paper topics, and my individual web page were all up to my colleagues and I to work out. There was also a lot more to discover indirectly. I became more familiar with the Bryn Mawr community’s thoughts, ideas, and beliefs, through readers’ responses and my own discretion about what my articles would say. The responsibility this course entailed was tremendous, but that is why the results have been so much more rewarding.Although I enjoyed coming up with topics, researching, and writing all of my articles, my favorite would be the one titled “Asians.” The reasoning is not necessarily because it was the best written, but because such a lightly covered topic stirred more response and controversy than any other articles, and because I am convinced that it provoked sensitive thoughts and emotions. Besides that piece, I enjoyed “getting sidetracked” with non fashion-related stories every so often. Each article was a part of me that does not usually get expressed.
One important aspect I want to clarify in the future about Sage is its mission statement. Throughout the semester, I have been noticing that although we advertise it as just an informative, amusing online magazine, we have taken on new roads and headed off in other fresh directions. Otherwise, I think it has been and will continue to be great.
I hope the readers keep looking through the Sage site; we appreciate your loyalty! As for my last sentence this semester on Sage, I would like to express gratitude toward my peers and our advisor. THANK YOU!
