Here are some (abbreviated) comments that Ananya wrote in one of her class write-ups that I thought you might like to think about and possibly comment on. One reason why I particularly like this list is because it suggests important distinctions that are often not made very clear in the readings. -PG
I'm beginning to think we should devise our own vocabulary for this class. So, let us have a word for:
1. Systems where local interactions lead to global patterns.
2. Systems where local interactions lead to global patterns which in turn influence local interactions.
3. Non-deterministic systems with many different possible behaviors (for precision we ought to quantify "many").
4. Deterministic systems with many different possible behaviors.
5. Systems that satisfy Flake's criteria.
6. Systems that satisfy Holland's criteria.
7. Systems that rely on a critical state.
These are only a few possibilities. Feel free to add more.
