Issue#5 Please don't post. I'm going to do a Swat weekend article until I hear from Ruth
Achot article:
I need more information on Achot from Ruth, but here's what I have so far:
I'm sure many of you know that there are different religious groups on campus. You may have even heard of Jewish Student Union/Hillel, the Jewish organization on campus. But did you know that there is also a Jewish feminist discussion group on campus?
Bryn Mawr's finest Jewish feminist discussion group is called Achot, and it is completely separate from JSU. Achot is a discussion group where the subject matter is generally somehow related to Judaism and feminism, but not necessarily both. Any female Tri-Co student, Jewish or non-Jewish, can attend an Achot meeting, but men are generally barred from the meetings so that there is a safe space to talk. Occasionally in the past it has been voted to allow men to attend a specific meeting, but all members must agree or be given fair warning in advance that men may be present.
Who comes to Achot? Jewish women from all backgrounds, women who want to know more about Judaism, and their friends and roommates.
We talk about all sorts of things, with topics ranging from the weekly Torah portion to an upcoming holiday to genetic engineering. Almost anything is up for grabs.
Achot tries to make its discussions easily understandable to an "outsider". Of course, there is the occasional lapse into Hebrew terminology, at which point it is entirely appropriate for any member of the discussion to interject and ask for clarification.

Achot meets every Tuesday from 5 until 7 [read: about 5:10 until people are finished, but no later than 7:00] in Erdman meeting room 3.
