From dblank at brynmawr.edu Wed Aug 31 15:00:57 2005 From: dblank at brynmawr.edu (Douglas S. Blank) Date: Wed Aug 31 15:03:34 2005 Subject: [Compsci] Welcome! Message-ID: <4315FE69.7010507@brynmawr.edu> Greetings to those who are interested in computer science @ BMC! This is a new mailing list for you to use to easily communicate with other students that have either declared a major or minor in Computer science or Computational Science, or have expressed interest to do so. To send a note to the list, simply send it to compsci@emergent.brynmawr.edu. If you know of others interested in hanging out with us, invite them to join at: http://emergent.brynmawr.edu/mailman/listinfo/compsci There are some upcoming events that you might be interested in related to computer science: - Tonight is a special showing of "2001: A Space Odyssey" at the newly remodelled Bryn Mawr Film Institute on Lancaster Ave. This is an interesting moving exploring (among many things) an intelligent computer named HAL. This classic 1968 film is beautiful, long (148 minutes), interesting, and a little weird at the end. But you don't get to see it on the big screen very often! I'll be going. - On Thursday, September 15th, 5:30-9pm at Thomas Great Hall, we will be building a spontaneous supercomputer out of a bunch of laptops. Should be fun and interesting. The professor behind the "flashmob" supercomputer idea will give a talk in CS on Wednesday, September 14 (time TBA). - A computer science tea party. Details soon! If you know of other activities that your CS cohorts might be interested, please send a note. Welcome back! -Doug -- Douglas S.
