I really, really hope some students will want to attend. You can let them know that I'm willing to help cover some costs... plus pay for a surf lesson! (I'm trying to organize a group outing.) Thanks for passing on the word! Kimberly* ---- * Student Scholarships* An on-line scholarship application is now available at https://ssl.linklings.net/conferences/ghc2006. The application *deadline is June 1, 2006* at 11:59p.m. If you are unable to complete the on-line application but would still like to apply for a scholarship, please email: ghc06_scholarships@gracehopper.org Details: * If you attend the conference, your major expenses will be: registration (which includes most meals), lodging, and airfare. Some scholarships will be awarded which fully cover these costs. Other scholarships will only partially cover these costs. * If you are awarded a scholarship, you will be notified around August 1, 2006. * In order to best serve the most students, when awarding scholarships we give slight preference to students who receive $300 toward the cost of the conference from their departments. Please talk with other women in your computer science courses, your women-in-computing organization, or your department chair about the possibility of some departmental funding before you apply for a scholarship. Of course, this is only one of the criteria used when awarding scholarships; we encourage you to apply even if your department is not providing funding. * When awarding scholarships, we give slight preference to women who are presenting a paper at the conference. Please note that presenting at the conference does not guarantee you a scholarship. * Women enrolled in community colleges are encouraged to apply for scholarships. * Men are encouraged to apply for scholarships. * If you will be traveling to the U.S. from another country, please be sure to allot enough time to apply for a visa and get your visa approved. Please check with the U.S. government about visa requirements well in advance of the conference date. I will be leading this discussion and hope that you all will come and provide input to the conversation. I intend to give a quick overview with a little bit of historical background (nationally and locally) and talk about some of the current trends and practices in the computer science classrooms and curricula. Then I will open up the discussion for everyone else to join in. It will help us reflect on the things we have been doing in the design of our curriculum and yuo all are contributing to it. There will be cookies, cheese and refreshments.....I hope you all can come! Message-ID: Hello All, Come see our dodecahedron! Yes, it's purple and blue, shiny and inflated! We have an amazing blimp (which still needs to be named, by the way) that lifts more than we could ever ask for. If you've been in PSB, you might have seen it zooming around the halls. So the blimp meeting is on for Friday, April 7th, at 4pm in the AI Lab. Come join and participate in the progress! Also, there is a practice session at Drexel on Sunday, April 9th. We will be taking the blimp out for the day to test it in the "real world" of a maze in Drexel's gym. More details will be forthcoming at the meeting, so if you would like to go, please attend!
