Message-ID: Hello Everybody, Welcome back to another exciting year at Bryn Mawr! We hope that you had a restful summer. The Computer Science Department is holding a Welcome Back/Get to Know You Tea, on Monday, September 11th, at 4pm in PSB 231. Meet your fellow students and your professors while watching the classic "Tron" and eating some snacks. We hope that you'll take this opportunity to get to know other students in the department, ask about people's experiences during the summer, and generally get reacquainted with each other! Hope to see you there. Sincerely, Leslie McTavish and Julia Ferraioli Your Major Reps From jferraio at brynmawr.edu Tue Sep 12 15:37:50 2006 From: jferraio at brynmawr.edu (Ferraioli Julia Rebecca) Date: Tue Sep 12 15:37:43 2006 Subject: [Compsci] ACM Programming Contest!!! Message-ID: Hello CompSci Students, The time has come again for the Association for Computing Machinery International Collegiate Programming Contest! The contest consists of teams of three students, an advisor, and a trip out to Wilkes-Barre. All teams get the same eight problems to solve using a programming language (C, C++ or Java). The contest lasts for five hours, during which each team attempts to solve as many of the problems as they can. The team who solves the most number of problems in the least amount of time wins! Bryn Mawr College, for the last three years, has sent a team, and we are looking to send one again! If you are interested, please email Dianna Xu at dxu@cs.brynmawr.edu letting her know. Please do not think that you have to be a major in computer science to participate! This is a great activity for all levels of experience. The contest stresses problem-solving skills rather than programming skills (despite its name). For more information, please see: http://icpc.baylor.edu/icpc/ The contest is October 28th, 2006 at Wilkes University So again, if you are interested, please let us know as soon as possible, so we can start putting together a team. It's very informal, and most people plan to just stop by before either the String Quartet Concert @ 3pm, or other activities -- and just to be explicit, you are certainly invited to visit, just be ready for anything (i.e., I will set up for volleyball, horseshoes, etc...) -- hope to see you Sunday -- J.D. --------------------------------------------------------------- John P.
