Please see the description below. If you wonder how your blog or wiki software works, if you wish your favorite Web site were easier to use or loaded faster, if you want to build the next Facebook, MySpace, or Twitter -- this class is for you! Because this class has no pre-requisites, you can also suggest this class to friends who are interested in learning more about the Web! If you have any questions prior to the first day of class, please e-mail me. Best, Kimberly Web Application Design & Development ------------------------------------ Mondays and Wednesdays, 10-11:30 AM, in Dalton 6 Kimberly Blessing '97, Instructor The World Wide Web has revolutionized our world. Every day, billions of people use computers, mobile phones, and other devices to access Web sites in order to get news, communicate with family, connect with friends, watch TV, and more. Using the Web for these purposes is easy, but building the Web sites that drive these applications takes skill. It requires not just programming experience but knowledge of networks and protocols; interface design and usability; information architecture and visual design; data storage, exchange, and security -- and much more. This course will broadly cover these topics through reading, research, lectures, and discussion, and will intensively apply them in a single project which will be developed over the course of the semester. The goal of this course is to give students the knowledge and experience they need to design and build their own Web sites and applications, whether for personal expression or for future employment. Pre-requisites: None, but first-years and non-CS majors or minors should discuss with the instructor first.
